Elm Class - Y6

Welcome to Elm Class – we are a class of Year 6 children.

Our teacher is Mrs Gardner.

SEND Provision

Some children in our class also access 'Pathways', which is an inclusive, self-funded SEND bases supporting children with complex needs, who may find the mainstream classroom overwhelming.

The children have access to the full curriculum and are taught it at their own pace; there is a focus on social and emotional skills. The philosophy is to enable the child to be emotionally literate, resilient, confident and we usually find that once a child has these elements in their tool kit, the academic side of the curriculum flourishes.

Our Curriculum

We cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.

View ‘Our Curriculum’ section for further details of our learning.

Here is our long term plan of topics across all subjects.  In 2025-26, we are currently following Cycle B.

Class Information and Homework

PE Lessons

Our P.E. lesson is on a Monday and Tuesday.

Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in school and it is named.

Reading

At Pelton Community Primary School, we aim to foster a love of reading and to increase exposure to different types of texts. Through regular reading, we aim to develop our fluency and comprehension of the texts.

Children will bring home a reading book home everyday and are expected to read to an adult 4 times a week.  Children should bring their reading book to school every day.

Spelling

We teach spelling using Spelling Shed.

Spelling will be introduced every Monday and revisited across the week in lessons.  Children will bring home up to 10 spellings each Monday and will be tested on these every Friday.

Maths

Children are encouraged to use Times Tables Rock Stars regularly at home with a weekly target of around 20 minutes to build speed, accuracy and confidence.

Written Homework

Written homework to support learning in class is given on Friday and expected to be returned by the following Thursday.
