Enrichment
Our school has a carefully planned Enrichment Document that sets out how enrichment opportunities, including our careers curriculum, are deliberately designed to complement and extend our ambitious curriculum. While our core curriculum meets the needs of all pupils through clearly sequenced learning objectives that build knowledge and skills across all subjects, our enrichment curriculum adds depth, relevance and real-world context to learning. Its purpose is to enhance academic achievement while supporting pupils’ personal, social and cultural development.
The enrichment curriculum ensures all pupils have access to a wide range of high-quality experiences, including educational visits, visitors, themed days and weeks, STEM activities, arts, sports, outdoor learning, forest school sessions and careers-focused learning. These opportunities are closely linked to classroom learning and are designed to boost engagement, enrich vocabulary, support different learning styles and develop essential life skills such as confidence, creativity, teamwork and leadership. By actively participating rather than simply observing, pupils build cultural capital, raise aspirations and begin to visualise themselves in future pathways and careers.
Our careers curriculum is embedded within enrichment planning so that pupils are exposed to a wide range of potential career paths and role models from an early age. Through encounters with professionals, real-world learning contexts and links to curriculum subjects, pupils gain a broader understanding of the opportunities available to them and the skills needed to succeed in later life.
By making purposeful use of our local environment in the North East of England, alongside engaging with specialists and community partners, pupils benefit from meaningful experiences that broaden horizons, nurture individual talents and passions, and promote a strong sense of belonging.
The Enrichment Document ensures that by the time pupils leave us, they have experienced a rich and varied programme of enrichment and careers opportunities that prepare them socially, culturally and academically for the next stage of education and for life beyond school. These experiences are carefully mapped through a two-year rolling programme for each year group, from 2-year-olds through to Year 6, ensuring a broad, balanced and progressive offer that builds on prior learning, avoids repetition and remains responsive to pupils’ needs and interests
