Nursery 3 Year Old Provision - Butterfly Class

We all enjoy playing alongside the children, giving them the opportunity to become so deeply absorbed in their play and as highly skilled and experienced practitioners we know exactly where to interject and enhance their play further to ensure we reach high levelled deeply engrossed and satisfying play where the children can't help but make progress. We work extremely hard to create an independent, rich and exciting environment where children can choose where to play, choice most definitely leads to self satisfaction. We use children's own interests to help with our environment too so the more information you can tell us about your child the quicker we can enhance their new room and personalise their learning. We love to choose a weekly book and explore it to its maximum potential, sometimes acting scenes out first and then when reading the book the children are always excited to make the connection.

Our Curriculum

In Nursery, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile.  We are a play-based curriculum which means we use our well-equipped environment to spark children's curiosity and encourage their learning. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage document, alongside the needs, interests and abilities of the children, to carefully plan an environment which stimulates learning. We also include short, carefully planned sessions to spark the inquisitive mind.

Please take a look at our Long Term Plan  to see our exciting and challenging topics and fabulous learning throughout the year.

Promoting a love of reading

At Pelton and Beamish Federation we are passionate about developing a love for reading.

We hold a yearly Scholastic School Book Fair and linked events as well as celebrating World Book Day with library visits and story carousels.

In EYFS, we vote daily for picture books we would like to hear read during the day. We also have a bedtime book box that goes home every week, that contains a year group recommended reader, a cuddly toy and a sachet of hot chocolate to enjoy at bedtime as a family
