Butterfly Class - 3 & 4 year olds

Welcome to Butterfly Nursery Class.

Our teachers are Mrs Morris and Mrs Connelly.

Our teaching assistants are Mrs Lee and Miss Callaway.

We hope you enjoy looking at some of the activities that we will enjoy this year.

Our Curriculum

We cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.

View the Early Years section of our website for further details of our learning.

Class Information and Homework

PE Lessons

Our ‘Movement’ session takes place on a Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon.

Children take part in these sessions wearing their usual nursery uniform so there is no need to get changed.

Phonics

In Butterfly Nursery our pupils begin their phonics journey through focused phase 1 phonics teaching. This fundamental stage is focused around developing children’s early speaking and listening skills and helps to lay to foundations as children progress onto our Read Write Inc Programme in Summer Term.

Autumn/Spring Terms: Nursery focus on Phase 1 Phonics teaching all 7 aspects to ensure children can listen, rhyme and orally blend.

Summer Term: Once children’s auditory skills are secure, Nursery begin to introduce the first Read, Write, Inc ‘Set 1” picture cards.

Reading

On a weekly basis, our Nursery pupils choose and take home an age-appropriate story book to be shared at home with parents/carers. Each child is given their own ‘Reading Journal’ which is used to document, encourage and foster a love for reading, both at home and school.

Maths

In Nursery, maths is taught through practical hands-on learning experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. Planned experiences are taught in line with the White Rose Maths blocks, but are adapted to meet the needs of our pupils/cohort.
